Before moving your mobile home, it's essential to understand your county's requirements for zoning approval, setup permits, taxes, and more. Click the "Find My County" link below to access the specific information you need to prepare for your move. Each county has its own rules and processes, so it’s always best to contact your local authorities to confirm what’s required.
The first step in the permitting process is obtaining a moving permit. Whether you’re staying within the county or moving to a different one, this permit is issued by the county where your home is currently located. Be prepared to pay any outstanding taxes, including delinquent taxes and advance taxes if you’re moving the home out of the county before the next tax bill is issued (typically in October). If you’re staying in the same county, you may need to secure setup permit approval before getting the moving permit.
Once you have your moving permit, you’ll need to get a setup permit from the county where your home will be relocated. This generally requires documentation such as your moving permit, a paid tax receipt, proof of water and sewer availability, and other paperwork. For example, if you need a new septic tank, you’ll need a DHEC permit to construct; for existing tanks, a septic tank inspection and drawing may be required. If your site uses city water and sewer, you might need an availability letter or a paid tap receipt for new connections. Additional documents, such as a site plan, an elevation certificate (if in a flood zone), or proof of agreement with the landowner, may also be necessary. If your new location is in a Wind Zone 2 county, your home’s data plate will be required.
If you’re in a flood zone, additional documentation will be needed, and the specific requirements vary by county. Not sure which county you’re in? Use this link to find your county. Simply click and enter your address to get started.
